Jokanur Diggings solution
I don't know about others, but I found this to be nearly impossible to complete with human players around my lvl (lvl 9). Its easy, until the last boss, who easilly out-heals henchy/hero monks, and does a lot of high-damage attacks. Problem is that I can never find a human monk for healing or a mesmer to help shut-down the boss (yes...you people reading this... Mesmers are important in PvE!) I am playing a Derv.
If you own Proph and/or Factions, or you PvP, you probably have some other elites to put on your heros. I recomend putting Grenth's Balance on your hero Derv (you have to take her to this mission), and Signet of Midnight on another Hero (probably your monk, or put it on warrior, but I prefer to take the monk). Both these elites are stat-independant. With these two skills, that boss (Acrogipneca or something like that...you can see from this post that I don't remember any character's names )goes down in like 10 seconds with this setup. He gets shut down and suffers massive damage.
Just writing this to help those that may have trouble with this mission.

That mission is easy, no offense but you may be the only one who can't beat it

apparently the ghost guy does not follow you to the alter, it happened to me once, but it is a real easy mission if everyone sticks together, it gets a lot harder than this trust me !!!

Wow, not everyone is a super pro like you. Maybe you should think about what you want to say before needlessly bashing someone who may have had a bit of trouble with a particular area. I'm sure there are many others who don't post on forums all the time that have trouble with it.
To the topic creator, nice to see you found a creative way to get past that guy.

I did not take offence and I expected it.
This mission probably is very easy if joined by a human monk but I didn't see any when I played this. It is easy if joined by a lvl 14 character. It should cakewalk with a mesmer, but I never see those. It may be easier with a human warrior, but I don't think so. It may be easy played with 3 human guildies who know what they are doing - instead of a PUG - , but I wouldn't know as I live in China and can't join a guild in my time-zone. When I was there, there were a lot of Dervishes, Paragons, and a few warriors. With these classes, that boss is difficult. The mission IS VERY EASY UP TO THAT BOSS. But that boss does a lot of damage with fast-cast attacks. It kills my derv in about 2 hits. That NPC chick (Korin is her name?...can't remember names) is useless. The boss "switches" class too. It has big self-heals. If you are a dervish, then two slots are filled with Dervishes. Which means less shut-down attacks.
So bring blinds and life-steal. Grenths Balance and Signet of Midnight work great.
Oh, and BTW, minor point... in the second chamber you have to get two stones. Pick up the first stone and drop it by the alter before you get the second stone. If you put it in the alter, by the time you get back to the second alter with the second stone, the first alter has "reset" and you need to get the first stone again. I sort of think this is a bug.

the stone does not get reset and its not a bug, a ghost picks up the stone again from the altar and puts it back ;]

This mission is actually really easy with just heros (or henches) once you figure out how to do it -- and/or know how to play your profession. My lvl 9 ranger did it with heros only first time out, Masters level.

just bring 2 monks, 1 hero (usually as protection monk) and 1 hench, if you got max damage weapon use it, I was level 9 derv and set scythe mastery to 10, all i hit is 104 104 104 oh those undead guys, especially with heart of holy flame you do holy damage.

Instead of heroes, people should give henchmen a more of a chance. Henchmen have AI programed specifically for this skill set, unlike heros. People tend to think Mesmers are weak in the beginning, but that's just wrong. So do bring an Illusion Henchmen, you'll find that the Illusion Henchmen doesn't use any Illusion Magic.

Falcon Dance: I believe that this mission is easier for a Ranger. Most things are easier for a human ranger because a human ranger can easilly stay at range and not die. Same for Necromancer. Also easy for monk probably.
Sage Tank: Yes, the undead die to Heart of Holy Flame. That boss does not. And if you are a Derv, you can bring 1 Monk Hero and 1 Monk hench (you have to bring the Derv hero), plus yourself. If you play a Derv, how do you bring 2 monks, 1 hero, and 1 hench plus yourself?
Lightblade: I want to take heros as much as possible so that they get xp. That being said... You said " So do bring an Illusion Henchmen, you'll find that the Illusion Henchmen doesn't use any Illusion Magic.". What does it use? I never paid close attention...I always thought he spammed Conjure Phantasm and the like.

tried once with humans.. failed. tried with my heroes. easy and straightforward. i believe me and my heroes were level 10 at the time. just run your team away when kormir starts attacking the sunspears, youll still get the bonus.

ogami_ito, you may be right. My ele had difficulty, although my warrior sailed through the mission with ease, as well.

bring about 2 warriors so that they can tank
and bring 2 monks and maybe dunkoro
make sure that you bring rangers so that they can pull the undead away from the boss.

That is precisely the problem to the difficulty.
Never had a problem with this mission before with Heros/hench.

i find people who say they struggle with a mission are either not a high enough level or just aren't good enough.
I have guild members asking for help all the time. and i'm like "come back when you're level 15" and then i'll help.

I'm off the Island by level 14
you want people to be level 15 for mission 2 ?
the mission outpost has level 9 henchies
- usually a good indicator of the desired level
the ranger/ele sidequest you do AFTER mission 2 is designed for lvl 11+
- the hero you get is level 11

I wasn't talking about that mission sorry. It was one of the later ones. There was no point in me "helping" if they were just going to get to the next place to struggle again. with scrolls and hunts they could have gained a few leveles in no time at all.
I was level 20 when i got off the island the first time.
